Facilities and Location
“Wow!! The bunkhouse is a real gem right in the middle of the Lake District! It was absolutely fantastic, we will definitely be using it again! After a bit of internet searching we came across your Bunkhouse, it was absolutely ideal!!” Southport District Scouts, Jan 2019
The Bunkhouse is heated by 2 wood-burning stoves and is dog-friendly! Hot water is provided by electric heaters and it has a simply equipped kitchen (with two x 2-ring electric hobs, fridge, microwave, a selection of pans and basic cutlery and crockery), accessible shower-room (+ extra WC) and communal area. Linen and mattresses are not provided – we suggest bringing sleeping bags and camping-type self-inflating mattresses.
There are no additional costs (electricity is included in the price) but we do ask guests to bring their own firewood for the stoves and to replenish existing supplies.
The Bunkhouse is reached by foot, bike or wheelchair via a 600m path (relatively steep in places), from the Bowderstone National Trust car park, 5 miles south of Keswick. The postcode is CA12 5XA. The grid reference for the Bunkhouse is 254165 on the Ordnance Survey map OL4 (1:25,000 series).
An overnight stay in the Bunkhouse is also on our programme for disability groups attending an Activity Course at our Centre.
