The Year so Far

May Update

Winter 2020/2021 brought about a series of events never seen before, with uncertainty and a constantly evolving situation.

On the 31st October 2020, Boris Johnson announced a second national lockdown in England, set to come into place on the 5th November. Before this, we’d been open as much as we could within government restrictions and had guests set to arrive throughout November, so, as it was for many, this lockdown led to our closure, with no idea of when we would be able to reopen again.

To date, we’ve been closed since then, but we’ve definitely been busy and are delighted to announce that we plan to reopen on 21st June!

As some of you may have seen, we launched our Bounceback Fundraising Appeal in December, as a charity we’d lost over £1million in income, meaning our work to open up outdoor adventure and the Lake District to those with disabilities was under threat. Our Appeal was supported by an incredible range of organisations and people, including our regular guests the Voysey Family, who were interviewed on ITV’s This Morning and BBC Breakfast about our appeal and their fundraising efforts. Through your kindness and generosity, we’re now (as of May 2021) in a much more positive and secure position than we were 6 months ago.

Since March, we’ve been a hive of activity here, getting everything ready to reopen in June. If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you may have seen our instructors begin their annual training, scaffolding being put up around our site to complete essential repairs and ongoing work to our hydrotherapy pool. Most of the buildings on our site date back to the 1800s, so we’ve taken the opportunity to undertake work on them, keeping them in good condition for years to come.

We’ve also been hiring new members of our team (more on that to follow in another blog post), strengthening our staff team, and working to get back to business as usual as much as we can!

Our fundraising continues to be a priority as it allows us to open up our services to more people – keep an eye on our Facebook page for fundraising events and ways you can get involved.

We’ll be posting frequent blog updates here, so make sure to check back for the latest and scroll down to see some of what we’ve been up to!
