Updates from Lake District Calvert Trust: Covid-19

July 2020:

The big news for this month is that we now have a definite date for reopening the centre, with us looking forward to welcoming our first guests since lock-down on Friday 31st July. Through the remainder of August, we will then be welcoming a selection of Families, Adults and Groups to the centre, and still have rooms available. If you’d like to know more please call us on 017687 72255 and speak to the Bookings Team.

Our team have already starting to return to the centre as well, making sure the facilities are back up to scratch and that additional measures such as floor markings, screens and hand-cleaning points are in place. We have also been working on a range of risk assessments to ensure that your visit with us is as safe and secure as possible.

Unfortunately, due to current restrictions our pool will not be able to open until further notice. We are however anticipating these restrictions to be relaxed so that our residents will be able to access it, although we expect it to be closed to the general public until Autumn at the earliest.

The stables will also be reopening for local and RDA riders from later in August and if you are interested in sessions there, they can be contacted direct on 017687 72250.

June 2020:

We know the importance of what we do here for our visitors and are making detailed plans on how to deliver our operations when restrictions are lifted while accommodating the new rules we are anticipating. The safety of staff, residents and local community is crucial, so we will be ensuring that once we have clarity on when we can reopen, we will do so responsibly.

This may involve us making some changes to the activities we offer, layout of the accommodation and dining areas, plus opening the centre to those just looking for somewhere safe and secure to recuperate. We’ve been here for over 40 years and are looking forward to helping vulnerable people enjoy the fresh air and countryside for many years to come.

Giles Mounsey-Heysham, Chairman of the Trustees for the Lake District Calvert Trust says: “While it is heart-breaking for visitors to Calvert Lakes that we have had to close since the middle of March, we will be open for business as soon as we can safely do so. We guarantee to give you the great Calvert experience that you’ve previously enjoyed and to all funders, we would also ask that you continue to support us in our important work.”

We are busy implementing the many, additional safety measures required throughout the Centre, but this all comes at an extra cost. Ensuring our Centre is COVID-safe has drastically increased our running costs, with which we’d hugely appreciate your support.

May 2020:

THANK YOU & an update from Calvert: From everyone here at Calvert, a massive THANK YOU to our amazing supporters for your help during this challenging time. We know that many are struggling at present and we cannot thank you enough for thinking of us.

Our plans to re-open: Our Team are working hard, adapting to regularly changing government guidelines, to ensure a plan is in place to welcome our guests back to the Centre when it is safe to do so. The safety and well-being of our visitors, staff and community are paramount when considering our plans to reopen our centres.

Visitor Bookings: Our booking staff are in touch with those of you who have been unable to visit due to the current lockdown. Thank you for your kind words, well wishes and understanding when rescheduling bookings.

The difference you have made: We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness which has so far raised an incredible £85,007 toward our forecast shortfall of £400,000. Your support has given LDCT a lifeline in these uncertain times, replacing some of the vital income lost due to this pandemic, bringing us one step closer to reopening and securing the future of our service for people with disabilities.

Supporting Calvert post Covid-19: The crisis is not over yet and we still need your support. Once this pandemic is over the ‘Calvert experience’ will be needed more than ever, not only by our current beneficiaries but also the many people affected by Covid-19 and the impact it has had on everyone’s lives, health and wellbeing. Help us continue our essential service for them.

We thank you wholeheartedly for your continued support and hope you stay safe and well in the months ahead.

April 2020:

Shut down of our centres: Due to the Covid-19 virus and government guidelines, we have had to temporarily close all the Calvert Trust facilities near Keswick including our main Calvert Centre, Hydrotherapy Pool, Calvert Stables and Calvert Reconnections.

Visitor Bookings: We were so sorry the planned breaks for our disabled visitors had to be cancelled; we are working with them to reduce potential losses and reschedule visits wherever possible.

Securing the future of our Trust: We are taking every step possible to ensure the Trust weathers this crisis, looks after its staff as well as being ready to re-open as soon as current restrictions and our finances allow. Our annual costs exceed £1.5million, with two thirds of our income generated from subsidised visitor fees, which has now ceased. We are cutting costs to the bare minimum. We have retained essential staff to ensure we can re-open swiftly.  Most of the other staff are being supported through the Government Furlough scheme.

You Can Help: Our beneficiaries need your support now more than ever. We are working hard to fill our funding gaps and ask if you would consider supporting the trust at this difficult time. Any donations you are able to make, to help continue our service for them and to ensure we reopen as soon as possible, will be hugely appreciated. Please donate through our website or contact our fundraising team to arrange a BACS payment which will reach us without delay or any extra charges.

Keeping in Touch with our Friends & Supporters: During these periods of self-isolation, this is even more important to us all. Please keep in touch whether by email, following our Social Media feeds or signing up for our e-News Calvert Catch Up

Supporting our local community: We are also keen to assist our local community, offering our facilities for use where needed and we are working with various external bodies to identify the best way to provide support.

March 2020

In these unprecedented times, Calvert Lakes will be closed to residential visitors and pool users until further notice. With the Governments latest advice restricting all but essential moment outside of places of residence and for those with underlying health conditions to self isolate for 12 weeks, we have decided this is the best course of action.

We will be contacting all those booked in to stay at the centre over the coming weeks on their options and we plan to re-open as soon as circumstances allow.

To be able to reopen as quickly as possible we are still taking donations through all the usual channels; our fundraising staff will still be answering emails and you can donate directly through our website.

We will continually update our status through social media and other channels so please follow us for all up to date information.

Our main switchboard number is currently open 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday if you want to speak to us direct.
