Themed and Specialist Courses
As an alternative to our standard multi-activity courses, families and adults can spend their stay on activities more suited to their preferences, confidences and abilities or with other participants similar in age or level of care support required.
Full Board Plus
If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy a stay at the Lake District Calvert Trust, but not necessarily take part in a full schedule of activities, why not come and check us out on one of our ‘Full Board Plus’ breaks. Use our specialised accommodation and facilities as a base to explore the surrounding area and take part in a selection of optional light activities. Availability is limited to gaps between residential activities courses through the spring and summer, or through late autumn and winter when demand for our accommodation is lower. Prices are based on length of stay and start at £99 per person which include all food from arrival through to departure, plus free access to our hydrotherapy pool and sensory room.
We offer horse riding or trap driving courses, plus grooming and horse care. This allows participants to spend their entire stay focused on equine activities at our own stables on the outskirts Keswick. Numbers of participants are on our Stables Courses are limited to 4 people with disabilities and carers for trap driving and 6 people with disabilities for horse riding. Weight limits are 13st. for horse riding and 18st. including wheelchair for trap driving.
These multi-activity courses are for those aged 16 – 25 who may get more out of their visit through doing activities, socialising and challenging themselves with other guests of their own age. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a competent adult, although those over 18 can attend unaccompanied, depending on care and support requirements. Accompanying care workers or family members can be over 25 and these courses are open to those with either learning difficulties or physical disabilities, or both.
Multi-activity courses are available for unaccompanied adults who only require prompts and guidance rather than care support, allowing them to develop confidence and self-reliance away from their home environment. Buddy Breaks are suitable for adults who are independent in the majority of their day to day lives, but may need some support in an unfamiliar environment. We provide ‘buddies’ – assistants who are able to help attendees, but do not provide any care.
“Both our boys have their own individual challenges, it is wonderful to see them try things that take them out of their comfort zone and the look of joy on their faces when they achieve! All staff are so aware of the needs of individual visitors and that makes a huge difference to the enjoyment levels of all. I will continue to recommend Lake District Calvert Trust”
“We have never been able to enjoy a holiday were everyone is involved. Being able to share activities with our daughter and granddaughter was fantastic”
“The total accessibility and friendly staff made us all feel right at home”
“Our boy got a lot out of riding, the ropes challenge and indoor climbing and related activity. It was good to have been in the company of others with similar problems and outlook.”
“Don't have any doubts or worries about coming just book it. Excellent and friendly instructors who are extremely knowledgeable about various disabilities and equipment. Great to experience what non-disabled or able bodied can do together rather than watching from the side-lines. We will be returning!”
“As the parents of an Autistic child, our plan was to see our son experience new challenges and for him to be integrated with similar children. In sum, we have achieved all we set out for and more.”
