Taking advantage of the amazing Lake District landscape, we run as many of our activities as we can away from the Centre, with all groups enjoying a variety of single and multiple instructor led activities. Each Activity Group has a dedicated instructor with them for the duration of their stay, allowing our staff to get to know every individual and helping you make the most of your stay.
Activities on our multi-activity programmes are designed by our expert instructors and take all levels of disability into account, with courses including a selection listed below.
Our Activities
Horse Riding
With participants either riding or trap-driving, our friendly horses and staff give everyone a sense of calm and wellbeing– please note, there are restrictions by weight.
Trap Driving
Our traps are of a traditional design and are accessible to people with a range of disabilities including wheelchair users.
Canoeing
Taking place on either Bassenthwaite or Derwentwater, our specialist equipment allows everyone to get out on the water and race up and down the lakes.
Hand Biking & Cycling
Taking place at a local nature reserve and on flat ground, our specially adapted bikes allow all participants to enjoy this popular activity.
High Ropes Course
New for 2017 and built on a slope with access at ground-level, this challenge is for ambulant groups and some manual self-propelled wheelchair users.
Zip Wire
Taking place on on-site, this poplar activity really gives everyone a huge sense of thrill and achievement.
Wheelchair Challenge Course
Our on-site course presents a challenging but achievable goal for wheelchair users and is often done in conjunction with the High Ropes course.
Bushcraft
Build fires to roast marshmallows, or construct woodland bivouacs, this activity takes place in and around the centre and is a great team bonding exercise.
Archery
Usually undertaken as part of a visit to our stables, this indoor activity with specialist equipment allows all abilities to release their inner Robin Hood! Not available for 2019 until further notice.
Ghyll Scrambling
For more ambulant groups, this offers a great opportunity to see the beauty of the Lake District while enjoying a challenging activity and developing teamwork.
Mine Visit
For more ambulant groups, a visit to the mine delivers an experience that gets them out into the Lake District and a sense of local history.
Orienteering
Learning to navigate and read maps on our trails around the centre is a great way develop teamwork while learning new life-skills.
Swimming
Our revolutionary purpose built Water Centre is open to all including residential visitors, self catering guests and the local community. It provides a complete sensory experience for users with and without disabilities.
Rock and Rope
Adaptable to all levels of ability with on and off-site options possible dependent on the group, this classic activity always develops participants’ self-belief.
Trapeze and Swing
Accessible to all and taking place in our in-door sports centre, this always generates squeals of delight and helps people overcome fears of the new.
Problem Solving
Can you cross a swamp using only ropes and wood or build an assault course for marbles? Just a couple of our great team-building challenges.
Sailing
Whether a leisurely sail on our catamarans or learning the basics in smaller craft, anyone can become a Swallow or an Amazon for the day.
Catamaran Sailing
We have our own catamaran on Lake Windermere for whole day excursions.
Lakeland Walk & Push
Great views guaranteed and tailored to the abilities of the group, from clambering up local mountains to leisurely wheelchair descents on forestry tracks.
Bunkhouse Visits
Some groups can choose to spend a night in our recently renovated bunkhouse, thus feeling very much at one with nature and with the rest of the group members. This is often a highlight of the course.
