The Bowderstone Bunkhouse
For the more adventurous traveller, the Bowderstone Bunkhouse provides cheap accommodation for those looking to independently stay in Borrowdale. Sleeping up to 12 people in bunk-style beds, it is available for 1 or more nightly stays.
This self-catered property is more suited to outdoor groups looking to ‘get away from it’, so ideally suitable for climbers accommodation, fell-walking or mountain bike groups or Duke of Edinburgh participants.
The nearest pub and small tea-room is in Rosthwaite, just over a mile away, either along footpaths or by car along the road.
The price is £100 per night and is available for 1 or more nightly stays. It is also only for use by clubs, educational groups or other organisations such as the Scouts, as it is on National Trust land and has certain restrictions to its use.
There are no restrictions on which day of the week your stay starts.
Facilities and Location
The bunkhouse has a simply equipped kitchen (with two x 2-ring electric hobs, fridge, microwave, a selection of pans and basic cutlery and crockery), accessible shower-room (+ extra WC) and communal area. Linen and mattresses not provided – we suggest bringing sleeping bags and camping-type self-inflated mattresses. It is heated by 2 wood-burning stoves and is dog-friendly!
The Bunkhouse is reached by it by foot, bike or wheelchair via a 600m path (steep in places), from the Bowderstone National Trust car park. The postcode is CA12 5XA. Please note that there is no availability from Friday 21st of December 2018 through to Monday 7th January 2019.
An overnight stay in the Bunkhouse is also on our programme for groups attending an Activity Course at our Centre.
