The Bowderstone Bunkhouse – sole use accommodation at ONLY £100/night at any time of year!!
“Thank you so much, we had a lovely weekend. We were very warm, we had both wood burners going and got quite a sweat worked up! We will definitely be coming back to use it.” Cragrats Climbing Group, Jan 2019
For the more adventurous traveller, the Bowderstone Bunkhouse provides cheap accommodation for those looking to independently stay in Borrowdale, near Keswick. Sleeping up to 12 people in bunk-style beds, it is available for 1 or more nightly stays.
This self-catered property is more suited to outdoor groups looking to ‘get away from it’, so ideally suitable for climbers accommodation, fell-walking clubs, mountain biking or scout groups or Duke of Edinburgh participants. It is on National Trust land and has certain restrictions to its use.
The nearest pub and small tea-room is in Rosthwaite, just over a mile away, either along footpaths or by car along the valley road.
The price is £100 per night (any time of year) and is available for 1 or more nightly stays; there are no restrictions on which day of the week your stay starts. Please scroll down to see our availability.
Facilities and Location
“Wow!! The bunkhouse is a real gem right in the middle of the Lake District! It was absolutely fantastic, we will definitely be using it again! After a bit of internet searching we came across your Bunkhouse, it was absolutely ideal!!” Southport District Scouts, Jan 2019
The Bunkhouse has a simply equipped kitchen (with two x 2-ring electric hobs, fridge, microwave, a selection of pans and basic cutlery and crockery), accessible shower-room (+ extra WC) and communal area. Linen and mattresses are not provided – we suggest bringing sleeping bags and camping-type self-inflated mattresses. It is heated by 2 wood-burning stoves and is dog-friendly!
There are no additional costs (electricity is included in the price) but we do ask guests to bring there own firewood for the stoves.
The Bunkhouse is reached by foot, bike or wheelchair via a 600m path (relatively steep in places), from the Bowderstone National Trust car park, 5 miles south of Keswick. The postcode is CA12 5XA. The grid reference for the Bunkhouse is 254165 on the Ordnance Survey map OL4 (1:25,000 series).
An overnight stay in the Bunkhouse is also on our programme for disability groups attending an Activity Course at our Centre.
